4 Ways To Ask For Referrals Using Social Media

by Scott Bradley on June 21, 2012

In my previous post, How To Ask For Referrals, I gave you the phone script I would use to effectively generate more warm referral leads through your network of contacts.

In this post I am going to share with you four ways you can also ask for referrals using social media.

1) Facebook

As long as you are straight up and transparent about asking for referrals on your personal profile, most people won’t mind. What I would recommend that you do is follow and create a variation of the script in the post linked above and push it out in a status update. (Specifically focused on the part when your contact allows you to ask your question.)

If you want to share the status update on your company Facebook page, create a post for your community of prospects and customers that they would feel comfortable sharing with their network of friends. Have the post be a picture providing valuable information that ties to your product with a call to action in the end.

In the status update text, be sure to give your fans an idea about what the post is, and then ask them to share it with their personal networks by pressing the “share” button below the post.

2) Twitter

You could ask for referrals using twitter in one of two ways.

The first way is by putting out a tweet to your followers letting them know that you are looking for more referrals, and that if they know anyone to please “@reply” you.

The second way you can ask involves your website and twitter account. On your website create a hidden page that explains what it is that you do, and that you are looking to generate more referrals. Provide a simple way for your network to send referrals to you, and let them know what else you need them to do to help you.

Once this page is created, then tweet it out to your followers with something around the lines of, “I need your help. Here’s how: YOUR LINK.”

I would recommend taking action the second way using twitter, even though it may take more time to create and get everything set up.

3) Google Plus

I would do the similar things above in the Twitter and Facebook sections. Just make sure that you tweak the post and links appropriately to fit within the Google Plus ecosystem.

4) Linked In

Follow the same process described in the Google Plus sections above.

Simple right?

Now go out and get to work!
